Hurrah! Australian celebrates its 30th anniversary: 3rd scoop free
Exactly thirty years ago, Frederik Van Isacker sold his very first scoop of ice cream on the corner of Lippenslaan and Dumortierlaan in Knokke. Australian now boasts 35 stores across Belgium and there’s a definite wind of change blowing through the company. Making it the ideal moment to celebrate this milestone anniversary.
Ice cream aficionado, Frederik Van Isacker, prepares his first ice cream in an old-fashioned ice cream maker. And he persists until mastering the perfect recipe. Fresh, delicious, 100% natural ice cream. That’s what he wants to sell. His recipe is a hit and that first summer is characterized by lots of hard work and little sleep.
Frederik swiftly opens additional stores along the Belgian coast, followed by a rapid succession of outlets throughout inland Belgium. The stores operate according to the same concept under a franchise contract. And yet each outlet is different. Unique, but without losing sight of Australian’s values.
From strength to strength
“In the beginning, we often received comments about the fact that our lemon ice cream was white instead of yellow,” says Frederik. “However, customers soon realised that this was the ice cream’s natural colour.” In other words, it’s free from colourings and preservatives. “We love food, and we love quality, natural products. The Australian concept was born from that idea.”
Our exceptional products and excellent reputation are enabling the company to go from strength to strength. Now with help from daughter, Delphine. “I was busy traveling the world with my four-legged friend,” she explains. “I returned to Belgium with the intention of working for just a few months before taking off again. But I acquired a taste for it. I thoroughly enjoy working with a creative mind like my father.”
